Gauteng will never be the same with the new kid on the block deejay Lady Sakhe. The 23 year old Johannesburger is rocking the gigs in and around Johannesburg like none\'s business. Gigs in Johannesburg are not hot without DJ Lady Sakhe who is giving other lady DJ’s a run for their money in as far as the deejaying career is concerned.
This young lady deejay is the talk of the town because of her deep house sounds that get regulars at parties, at clubs, at shebeens and all over Gauteng asking for more every time she parts from the decks. Every time she gets behind the decks no matter what time of the day the mood changes and you find party goers getting down.
She has featured on TV, national radio, on Sowetan Sunday World and on Alex News to mention but a few. The deep house sound sista also featured as a guest deejay at the Innesfree Park one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Fan Fest Park.
This lovely lady is a proud self-taught DJ that learned more about deejaying through spending time in Rosebank at a place called spinout which is in Johannesburg. Most of the aspiring DJs including Lady Sakhe spent a lot of time at spinout for practicing and sharpening their skills.
Lady Sakhe has been spinning the decks for 5 years. She is born and bred in Johannesburg and currently reside in Bramley View. Lady Sakhe grew up in Soweto and says she found love for deejaying in 2004 during her school years and she knew she had to first break some ground by entering an industry dominated by men she did and never looked back ever since.
Lady Sakhe specializes in Deep House Sounds which has created an opportunity for her to play at all types of gigs and at places such as Tshwane University of Technology, Capital in Rosebank, Club Bar 9 in Midrand, Club Shoosh in Midrand, Zambezi Lounge, now called Kalawa Jazzmee Lounge, she’s also played on different radio stations such as Yfm and Jozi fm and on Channel O and recently on Live an SABC1 show happening
every Friday and on Ses’khona a reality show on SABC1 showing every Thursday. She is also a resident and the only lady DJ featured every Sunday’s at the famous Joe’s Life Style Butchery in Alexandra Township. Every Sunday big name DJ’s are featured at Joe’s and Lady Sakhe plays alongside them.
Lady Sakhe has also played outside of Johannesburg, in Bloemfontein and in Polokwane, where she was invited to play at the ANC Youth League’s party in December 2009.
Lady Sakhe says, “This has been a journey and ever since I started deejaying. My style of music and play has exposed me to an overwhelming experience as I can proudly and safely say I have played alongside International and South Africa’s biggest names in the deejaying sphere. Amongst other names to mention but the few: DJ Fresh, Black Coffee, DJ Vinny Da Vinci, Christos, Glen Lewis, Dj Ganyani, Oskido, Martin East, Rocco, Ralf Galm and Manoo.
METRO FM listeners were also exposed to Lady Sakhe’s fine deep house sounds when she was invited as a guest on The Urban Beat (Fri & Sat 10pm-1am) show hosted by ZEAL, Christos and Vinny Da Vinci. METRO FM telephone lines were abuzz with followers wanting to speak to Lady Sakhe. As a result of that night she has been inundated with calls from fans, her facebook status also boast a large number of enthusiastic fans who can’t get over her style of deejaying and mostly her sound.
This sista knows all about doing it for herself and is at the moment chasing her dream of becoming one of the biggest DJ’s in South Africa. Having had humble beginnings herself Lady Sakhe truly value the importance of developing other female DJs. She says she is at the moment toying with an idea that has been in her mind since what she thinks was a breakthrough in the entertainment industry, which is that of starting a deejaying school.
This sista has started a company called ICE CONSULTING & ENTERTAINMENT which her school will be trading under.
The company will not only focus on the school but will be the hub for Entertainment and Consulting for Events, PR and Communication needs. This will not be just a name this will be a lifestyle and an experience to share culture, feelings, emotion etc.
Lady Sakhe believe strongly in innovation within entertainment, and believes that the time has come that the industry must grow the lady deejay talent, embrace it and work with us as we strive to be the best in the industry that needs lady deejays.
