A welcome touch of Mozambique and its cuisine to Johannesburg. Situated in Melville, this lively yet laid-back cocktail bar and restaurant is the hottest joint on the Melville Strip. Frequented by Melvillites, journalists, artists and musicians alike. Xai-Xai, named after a Mozambican beach resort is positioned on the trendy and all to familiar 7th Street, Melville. It is labelled the Mozambican Shebeen by the regulars who often spend endless evenings indulging in the original cocktails and shooters concocted by the laid back barmen. This cozy little venue is often packed with young trendy students and celebs, to your not so young (but of course trendy) regulars of Melville. An array of visually stimulating pictures and posters lit up by multi-coloured hanging lights surround tables dimly lit by melting candles positioned in old brown beer bottles, creating a feeling of pure beach-like relaxation. To add to this comfortable vibe is the almost informal service of the waiters who blend into the crowd. A perfect complement to the Mozambican beer is a traditional Portuguese meal, which can be ordered off the delicious menu or off the boards in Xai-Xai itself.
